Synopsis

Within the context of a growing commitment in Singapore and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to sustainability planning and policies that are transdisciplinary, transboundary, fully integrated, and forward looking, NTU's Sustainable Earth Peak is organising this roundtable with four eminent economists. This panel of esteemed economists are thought leaders in their respective fields, all of which impact on areas critical to the challenges and opportunities of sustainable development. We are pleased to be able to bring them together for short presentations and introductions to NTU, followed by a moderated roundtable and Q&A session.

Emeritus Professor, University of Cambridge

  1. Research interests have covered welfare and development economics; the economics of technological change; population, environmental, and resource economics; social capital; the theory of games; the economics of global warming, and the economics of malnutrition.

  1. Research has focused on diverse areas of environmental economics and policy, including examinations of: market-based policy instruments; regulatory impact analysis; innovation and diffusion of pollution-control technologies.

  1. Research includes land value changes, alternative techniques of assessing changes in economic welfare, economic analysis of the various legal rules and institutions, and behavioral economics.

  1. Major research interests are numerical dynamic programming and retirement behaviour, and focusing on a broad range of topics including investment, social security and medicare, the nuclear power industry, and auctions.
